Custom Label Categories
Custom Labels used in Seven20 are assigned a number of categories to assist with identifying individual labels, and to provide context when creating overrides and translations. Each Custom Label will have at least 3 categories:
- A Seven20 category to indicate the label is part of the Seven20 product
- The name of the Seven20 package the label is defined in e.g. Core, Utilities
- A type which indicates its purpose within Seven20 e.g. Title, Help Text. For some labels, a more relevant location/topic category may be used instead of a type
Additionally, many labels will contain further, more specific categories:
- If a label contains object or field name merge fields this will be reflected in the categorisation e.g. Field Parameter, Object Parameter
- Location/topic categories relevant to the Custom Label e.g. Codes, Hotlist
When looking for individual labels to translate or override it can be useful to create a new custom list view on the Custom Labels page located at Setup -> User Interface -> Custom Labels. By adding Filter Criteria to the view, such as Categories contains ATS, it is possible to narrow down the labels in the list based on their context.
Many Custom Labels used are generic and are used across multiple pages. While this increases consistency and reduces translation effort, it also means categories like ATS will not be present on every Custom Label that appears on the ATS.
