When AWS is enabled, the Seven20 email service changes the way that emails are sent and processed within Seven20. From an end user's point of view this is completely transparent, with one exception, all emails are sent asynchronously.
Requirements
Email domains being sent from need to be verified before any email can be sent. This is a requirement of AWS, and is a one time setup process. To verify a domain, follow the steps below:
- Get a list of domains to be sent from
- Reach out to Seven20 with the list of domains
- Seven20 will provide a list of DKIM records to be added to the DNS of each domain
- Once the records have been added, Seven20 will verify the domains and sending will be enabled
Verification via DKIM also increases the deliverability of emails.
Any additional domains will need to be verified before they can be used.
Domain reputation
When sending emails via AWS, the reputation of the domain is critical to ensure deliverability. A domain's reputation is based on the number of bounces and complaints it receives relative to the number of emails sent. If the bounce or complaint rates reach too high a level, email sending will be disabled for a Salesforce org. Seven20 will actively monitor the email sending reputation metrics and may be required to disable sending if the reputation is at risk. In this case alternative arrangements will need to be made to route emails to your own mail servers via SMTP.
Ensuring emails sent are of high quality and are not spammy will help to maintain a good reputation and have wider benefits, such as less emails going into spam.
